I LIKE IT TO BE A PLAY EVERY AFTERNOON:
CalArts Festival Theater presents I LIKE IT TO BE A PLAY EVERY AFTERNOON, two Gertrude Stein short plays adapted with hope and humor, in it’s 6th season on the fringe
Los Angeles/Edinburgh – CalArts Festival Theater presents I LIKE IT TO BE A PLAY EVERY AFTERNOON, containing two plays by Gertrude Stein as interpreted by an ensemble of graduate acting students from the CalArts School of Theater I LIKE IT TO BE A PLAY EVERY AFTERNOON will open on August 8th. It will play from Saturday, August 8th until Saturday, August 15th at 11:45 and then Sunday August 16th and Tuesday August 18th through Saturday, August 22nd at 13:45. There will be no performance on Monday, August 17th.
I LIKE IT TO BE A PLAY EVERY AFTERNOON is a whimsical and sardonic take on modern life about THESE PEOPLE in THIS ROOM. It is a thoughtful, physical, and irreverent adventure where the characters play in the space between sense and language. While creating meaning was not the ensemble’s initial intention, themes continue to emerge through joyful collaboration and engagement with the audience. These pieces speak to bourgeois ache, the human desire to BE WITH, and the cry from artists everywhere, “Look at us! Be with us! We are fun AND useful!”
